    OK John,

I have been working with a great tech support at Cineform.

I am trying to start with a 3 hour continuous shoot composed of a dozen small files of AVCHD from my NX5U camera that I would like to both concatenate and convert with Neoscene, then edit in Vegas.

The tech said Neoscene can not concatenate, but I could use Sony Vegas to point to the Neoscene encoder, and both convert and concatenate. He did not know how to do that.
    Does anyone know how to?

    Thanks

I think what he meant was to lay your AVCHD out on the timeline end-to-end and just render as Cineform. You can find it as one of the video formats under Video for Windows (AVI).

If you’re talking about your camera making multiple files out of a single shot because of the limitation of the FAT32 file system that it uses, then Vegas will concatenate them together when you import them from the camera using the Device Explorer (or at least it should).

    John,

Yes, the fat file limitation is what I am trying to compensate for.

I don’t see the cineform option

I am in vegas. I say render as file type video for windows (avi).
Then there are templates, but none say cineform.
Then there is a custom button, but nothing under it says cineform.

    What am I missing?

If you have NeoScene installed, press the Custom button for Video for Windows (AVI) and on the Video tab look at the Video Format drop-down. You should see Cineform in there:

    John,

    Thank You very much.

    I see it.

I thought that was some cheap cineform lite kind of encoder that sony had thrown in.

What I understand is that somehow after I installed neoscene, vegas just new that that was there and it appeared in this menu.

    You are awesome. Thank you.

Yes, any Video for Windows codec that gets installed and registers itself with Windows will be seen by Vegas and show up in this list. Then just make a template that uses it so that you don’t have to keep changing it each time.
