  • DVD Architect: can’t edit media properties?

Somewhat of a strange problem this time around: Using DVD Architect Pro 5.0, I’m trying to assemble a number of different video clips into a blu-ray. As I was previewing each clip in turn, I noticed some were recognized as having 960×720 resolution. I should mention I do have mixed media here, and several other clips are 1280×720.

No problem, I figured I could manage a quick fix by going into the Media Properties window and changing the pixel aspect ratio from 1.00 (Square) to 1.333 (HDV).

Well the moment I hit the okay button it seems to revert my selection back to square. What’s more, just to figure out the culprit, I also tried changing the field order and alpha channel settings in Media Properties to similar effect: the moment you exit the box, the changes are lost.

Now granted, if I have to, I can always throw these files into Vegas and fix the issue there, but I’m just curious if this can be resolved directly from Architect.

It’s just something of a bizzare problem, and I wanted to know if some sort of auto-detect wasn’t snapping my settings back. And I think we can all agree that black bars are most unbecoming of HD footage.

    No it can’t.
DVDA is an authoring program, not an editing program so you’ll have to do this in Vegas.

If that’s what is necessary, no big deal…but why even bother putting a Media Properties window in Architect with selectable settings, if none of them do anything?

The Media Properties window is there to set the project properties default, not individual clip properties.
I always give DVDA a series of identical files, not a mishmash of them as it will get confused.

Just for clarification: are we talking about the same properties dialogue?

I don’t mean the Project Properties dialogue, but rather the Media Properties dialogue you get when you ‘Navigate Into’ the clip, select ‘Track Media’ from Media Properties, and then click ‘Media Properties’ from the drop down arrow.

As this window has specific information regarding the individual properties of the clip, I was assuming changes made here should affect clips individually.

    My apologies.
I was talking about project properties.
I still stand by my original statement and that is to ensure that you’re giving DVDA files that all have the same properties.
