Has anyone used the Panasonic AG-HMC150 and edited the footage in Vegas? I’m interested in this camera and wondered if it worked well with Vegas? Do you need a third party plug in to Edit the footage like Panasonic P2 or no? Has anyone shot any green screen stuff with it? How does it key out?

no third party software required. We edit the HMC 150 footage regularly. We just released a training DVD for this camera, shot with this camera and edited in Vegas.
AVCHD is not the best greenscreen/keying format, but it can be done nicely in Vegas. It can be done better in After Effects, but that will require a transcode.

Thanks for the response, Douglas. Would you recommend the HMC 150? What camera works well with Vegas and gives you clean keys when you’re doing green screen work? I’ve been following your Vegas tutorials on the VASST site for a while now. You’ve taught me a lot! Thanks for the great work!

    Hi Chris/Douglas,

    I’m also considering this camera.

Q1. Does the AVHCD format work well with Vegas 9 Pro? (I don’t have 10 yet, would rather stick to 9 for now)

Q2. Douglas, I’m not clear regarding your response re: green screen. Do you mean that AVCHD has probs with other NLEs but is OK with Vegas?

    Thanks,

    Gilles

Vegas 9 can handle AVCHD but Vegas 10 does it better obviously. It’s definitely worth the upgrade in my opinion.

I do it all the time – it’s great! I use Vegas Pro 12. HMC-150 is just fine with Vegas and the AVCHD files play nice with it. I often edit on quarter preview quality even though I have an Intel i7 Chip and 12GB RAM…it just flies when I do that. My only issue is that I desperately long to render with my GeForce 980 card with GPU acceleration and it always fails…halfway or three quarters into the render it will freeze on a black screen and it’s just frustrating. So I have to go back to my i7 chip for rendering. Oh well. I know this post is a bit old…have you been editing with it then? How do you like it now? What sort of videos have you put out? I’m at https://www.seattleweddingvideography.com – feel free to check me out and tell me what you think of my stuff; I’m always interested in collaborating or networking and chit-chat. Happy editing! 🙂 Sincerely, Ryan Graves, Seattle Wedding Videography
