I post in desperation as everyone does, I am using vegas 9, (ungraded from 8) Previously I converted qt mov files to Avi in order to get them in the timeline, it worked. Now those same files wont play in Vegas 9. I also obviously cat get more than the audio on the timeline, I have installed the lastest quicktime version 7.6 from the apple weebsite, still no luck.

    I am dying here.

    Regards
    Dean

You should not have had to do this. Vegas works perfectly fine with MOV files. I assume there was a codec problem that forced you to do this.

This points to a missing video codec. What codec did you use to convert them to AVI files? Make sure that this codec is installed. (You can use the free GSpot utility to check if you don’t remember). If you are using the 64-bit version of Vegas Pro make sure that you install the 64-bit version of whatever codec it is that you need.

I have installed the lastest quicktime version 7.6 from the apple weebsite, still no luck.

This will have no effect since the files are now AVI. Or were you trying to load the original unconverted MOV files again?

Yes I was trying to reload the MOV files, it seems such a long way around to convert to make them work, the original QT I cannot find out what codec they are using, (or can I) .
(oh also cant export in the final rendewr 4 channels of audio in qt, this is needed for deliver) If anybody was in Los angeles, I would pay well for a consult onsite.

You should be able to use GSpot to tell which codec the Quicktime file uses.

Yes I have tried that , but NO codec shows up, the video side of gspot is empty, the file plays in vlc but little else

So it doesn’t play in Quicktime? Because if it does, you can use Ctrl+I to inspect the video properties. Does VLC allow you to see the video properties? Where did you get the file from? What did you use to convert it? Whatever converted it was able to read it and should know what codec it uses.
