re-associate audio or video portion
Posted by Gilles Gagnon on March 8, 2010 at 9:34 pmLet’s say I have a portion of a clip on my timeline which only has either the audio or video portion. (ie. I’ve previously divorced the two).
What is the simplest way to reload the associated video/audio clip with what’s on my track so I once again have both its audio and video?
I hope this question makes sense….
Thanks,

March 8, 2010 at 11:09 pmDouble-click the clip to highlight it, right-click and select Open in Trimmer, go to the trimmer, right-click the clip, drag it to the timeline, place it over the existing clip, select Audio Only – Add Audio Across Time and let go.
Group the two back together and you’re done. -

March 8, 2010 at 11:35 pmThanks Mike, however, this doesn’t work if the clip on the timeline has been trimmed. What appears in the trimmer is the entire clip, so this doesn’t quite work.
other ideas?

March 8, 2010 at 11:45 pmGilles, when you tell the clip to open in the trimmer, all you see is the trimmed portion so you may think that’s all there is.
Zoom out in the trimmer window though and you’ll see the entire clip with only the trimmed portion being highlighted. -

March 9, 2010 at 12:45 amthanks for persisting with me Mike,
I see what you mean. I tried this several times, zoomed out after r-clicking to load in teh trimmer. Indeed there was a selection but it is just a sliver. not the equal length of the associated audio (from which I r-clicked).
Ideas?

March 9, 2010 at 1:15 amGilles, I think there’s been a misunderstanding about the procedure.
First you double-click the clip on the Vegas timeline that’s missing the audio.
Only then do you right-click and open this clip in the trimmer and you should see the entire missing length. -

Works perfectly! My fault, I wasn’t 2x clicking as you had first mentioned.
Thanks again, this will save me a lot of time compared to the way I used to proceed before.
Cheers,

March 9, 2010 at 3:12 pmBTW, VASST Ultimate S Pro and Excalibur both have functions to rejoin missing video and audio with a single click. You might consider picking up a scripting tool that can speed up a lot of these tedious editing tasks.
