  • Adding subtitles with black background

Posted by Max Andersson on March 1, 2010 at 10:42 am

    Hey there.
I’ve been looking for this funktion for a few days now, but I can’t find it. I know it should be in Vegas.

Look at this video and you’ll understand exactly what I want:

Anyone knows how I should do this?

    Thanks

First of all, do you want to do the subtitles just in Vegas or in DVD Architect?

Just in Vegas, so it’s “burned into the video” when I export it.

There are many ways to do this, depending how it should look. One way is described here by Terry Esslinger:

It should look exactly like it does in that video i posted. Very simple, and automaticlly ajust depending on how much text you write.

I’ll look into that post and try it out, thank you.

A black background which is a littlebit transparant is no problem in Vewgas. However, when you want the size of the background to adjust automaticly to the size of the text, you can use Graffiti, a plugin for Vegas.

I know it should be doable to do the exact look of the subtitles in the video i posted with Vegas, without downloading stuff. I don’t get why I can’t find the function, it should be extremely easy. Guess I suck with Titles and things.

You are correct… you don’t need a plug-in. Use the ProType Titler in Vegas Pro and when you enter your text, switch to the Style tab and check Background and set the color to black and alpha to 100. That’s all you need to do.

I’m sorry, but I can’t find the “Style”-tab anywhere. I Just see “Transform”, “Effects” and “Layout”. The only time I found anything saying “Alpha” was in the “Media Properties” for this text-thing, where it says “Alhpa Channel:”

Wait… Now as I was writing this, I checked things in Vegas. I noticed an big I, saying “Edit Text”. I clicked it, and I saw these tabs you were speaking of.

Thank you very much, this was exactly what I was looking for!

    Best Wishes
    Max

Yes, I did say, “…and when you enter your text“. Sorry I wasn’t more specific. It’s only available in the Edit Text mode as you have seen.
