I had shot some high definition video of one of my daughter’s hockey games. The files are AVCHD 1920×1080-60i 5.1 I attempted an experiment in burning a DVD. The DVD was done at NTSC 720×480 widescreen. In one take I rendered the file using Vegas (video and audio seperately as recommended). Since this was prerendered, no rendering was required by DVD architect. In the other take, I just placed the original file onto DVD architect. This then did require rendering thru DVD architect and took quite a bit longer then the rendering done in Vegas. I noticed that DVD architect made a folder with the rendered data and the video file was in VOB format. There was a definate apparent difference in video quality between the two clips. The DVD was played on a Sony PS3 on a 55 inch Samsung LED backlit high definition television. The video quality was better for the clip that was processed directly thru DVD architect. Could someone explain this apparent difference in video quality.

DVD Architect may have used a higher bit-rate than you did in Vegas because it saw that it had plenty of room on the disc. Or maybe it used Two Pass and you didn’t? DVD Architect will adjust the render settings to fit the disc so you don’t get the same quality every time. You get appropriate quality based on content size.

Thank you John, for the response. Could you please make a recommendation regarding rendering settings via Vegas that I may be able to render the native video properly initially. I haven’t adjusted bit rate, two-pass, ect. Should I adjust these? If so, what would be the recommended settings. Should I adjust anything else in order to get the best quality out of these clips?
