Activity Forums VEGAS Pro Changing Sound playback speed

  • Changing Sound playback speed

    Hello,

Just wondering if someone can help me.

Often I will record footage in FRAPS at half speed to get a better framerate.

Then when in Sony Vegas I change the playback speed to 2.0, the picture speed changes but not the audio to go with it.

At the moment the only way I can think to change this is to render the video as separate audio and video streams, then use a sound file editor to speed up the audio and add it all back in. Not very efficient.

    Any better suggestions?

    Many thanks.

Right-click the audio event and select Properties. Then on the Audio Event tab change the Time stretch / pitch shift Method from None to élastique and specify the new length.

    Excellent, that is very helpful.

One other question if you will indulge me:

I have seen others asking how to create a still from video, and the answer was to “insert velocity envelope”. Well, I am using Vegas Platinum 9, and as far as I can tell, that option does not exist.

Are there any other ways to do it?

    Ok, slight hitch:

I tried what you said, but the only options are “None” or “Classic”…No Elastique….

Velocity envelopes are only available in Vegas Pro so you have to do frame grabs (i.e. stills) the “old fashioned” way.
Park the cursor at the desired location.
Set the Preview window to Best/Full.
Go into your Properties and set the filed order to Progressive.
Now click the “Save Snapshot to File” icon (just above the Preview window).
Choose a save location, give it a name and choose a file type (either jpg or png).
If this is an SD project, the resulting image will be 655 x 480 pixels but that’s what a 720 x 480 image with a PAR (Pixel Aspect Ratio) of 0.9091 works out to.
Remember to change your project properties back to lower field first (assuming this was NTSC DV to begin with).

You did not say what version of Vegas you have. I assume people are running the latest Vegas Pro 9.0 unless they say otherwise. Elastique is only available in Vegas Pro 9.0. You’ll have to use Classic.
