Soft Edge
I’d like to place a smaller-sized video on top of a full-screen one and make the edges of the smaller one bleed (progressively dissolve) into the larger one. I can’t figure out how to do that in Vegas. I’m sure there’s a simple solution.

Position the smaller video using Track Motion and add the Sony Border FX with the Soft Edge preset to the event to fade the edges.

Thanks, John. The effect I am looking for is a soft-edged black border. Your solution got me there. For others, here is the detailed procedure:
• Place the clip(s) for the smaller window on its own time line
• Use TRACK MOTION to size and place the smaller window – only way the Sony Borders FX will work correctly
• Add FX: Sony Border, two times
• On the first Border, add Solid Border of color of choice and size to taste
• On the second Border, add Blurred Border and size to tasteRick Wise

This is not the only way. You could use Pan/Crop. You just need to toggle the Pre/Post button to apply the FX pre crop. The default is post crop. This is the little triangle next to the FX name in the properties dialog. Like this:
I suggested Track Motion because I find it easier to work with for positioning and you can add an optional shadow but Pan/Crop makes perfectly good PIP’s too.
