I have noticed that a PIP generated with Vegas track motion or with Boris Fx looks always nicely sharp while a PIP generated with Spicemaster 2.5 always looks blurry (see movie).

When I use the same Spicemaster 2.5 to create transitions, there is no blur and the transition looks fine.
Is it that I do something wrong with the PIP or do other people see the same differences?

    Thanks!

From the looks of it, you are using a splice that is an oval and the PIP is an oval. Spicemaster is doing exactly what you asked it to. Use a spice that fills the frame and the PIP will fill the frame too.

    Hi John,

I’m not sure whether we are talking about the same thing. The spice ofcourse determines the shape of the PIP (which allows me to create very rapidly all kinds of interesting compositions. But my question is about the blurring of, in this case, e.g the text. Even if I make the PIP complete visible, the text remains blurry (see figure)

When I used Spicemaster for transitions, I have never noticed this strong blur. If the Spicemaster PIP only works with full PIPs, then it has no advantage over other methods. But it is the flexibility of the shape of the mask which makes me very enthousiastic about using the spicemaster PIP.
Did you ever use spicemaster to create PIPs? And were they sharp?

OK, I see what you mean. It seems that the scaling makes it blur. When I adjust the scale up it gets clearer but that defeats the purpose of the PIP. I guess it’s just a function of SpiceMaster’s scaling.

Vegas does a much better job using Track Motion and you can control the shape by compositing the track with with a Gradient Mask or even a Spice with the Mask Generator plug-in applied.

In case somebody else is having the same problem: the solution is quit simpel. Go to the PREFS tab and deselect the option SUBPIXEL PIP PRECISION.
(many thanks to Michael Feerer from Pixelan).
