Ultimate S
Posted by Ron Wildhaber on January 4, 2010 at 8:51 pmWhat is the latest version of Ultimate S that will work with Vegas 7. Also does anyone know where I could find a book that covers the basics of Jscript. I am not a programmer so I would have to start at the very beginning. I do a lot of video work and could save so much time if I started using scripts. Thanks in advance..Ron

January 4, 2010 at 10:05 pmI believe the latest version is 4.1 and it is backwards compatible with vegas 7
Scripts are an absolutely amazing part of Vegas pro and can speed up your work substantially. ULT S is a script based extension that is so good it should actually be PART of Vegas. There is another one too much like ULT S called EXCALIBUR. I have both and would not be without wither for a second
Edward Troxel is responsible for Excalibur and it just so happens he has a site filled with tons of free scripts. It’s also the home of Excalibur (not free but does come with a trial period)

January 5, 2010 at 10:51 amThe latest version of Ultimate S Pro 4.1 works with Vegas 6 thru Vegas Pro 9.0 64-bit. It behaves differently in Vegas Pro 8.0 & 9.0 because it is a Command Extensions which sits in a docked window always available. In Vegas 6 & 7 is must be called up and then dismissed each time you need to use it.
There are tons of books on JavaScript. The 24 hr books are pretty good (i.e., Teach yourself JavaScript in 24 hrs.) If you are not a programmer, learning JavaScript for the purpose of writing scripts in Vegas is not going to be easy because most JavaScript books assume you are running in a browser and start off teaching you stuff that you can’t use at all which I’d imagine would be very frustrating. You just have to stick with it until they teach you programming logic. Then you need to learn the Vegas Scrpt API which has very minimal documentation. It’s best to learn by looking at the examples in the Vegas Script SDK. Scripts like Ultimate S Pro and Excalibur are written in C# not JScript but C# has an even steeper learning curve.
What is it you need to do? Maybe someone can help you get started or maybe Ultimate S Pro or Excalibur does it already.

January 5, 2010 at 10:59 pmI do wedding videography on the side and occasionally put photomontages together. Quite often the pictures are old and I change aspect ratio and crop to get the white borders off. I give the photos a lot of movement but I try to vary that with each photo so it is not so monotonous (slow zoom in or out, panning across screen, twisting & turning). I think it looks so much better than them all having basically the same effect. It would be great if I had a script that would maintain aspect ratio, eliminate the white borders, remove red eye, take off the date code, and vary their movements throughout the list. This is probably too much for a single script but just changing aspect ratio and removing the white bars would be a big help especiallt when you are dealing with a few hundred pictures. Thanks Ron
