Vegas Pro and the Missing LFE Channel
Hello all,
Just thought I’d check here to see if anyone has heard one way or the other about an ongoing issue with Sony’s Vegas program.
Does anyone know if Sony has ever fixed the missing LFE channel issue when editing AVCHD video? The Dolby 5.1 audio present in some AVCHD video files has 6 channels (5+1) and the LFE channel is the one responsible for directing the amount of sub base sound to the subwoofer in the sound system. Whenever I edit my Sony AVCHD video in Vegas Pro 8.0c, the LFE channel in the audio mixer is always empty. I see version 9 is out now and I was just curious if anyone here has tried it yet with their Sony AVCHD camcorder and could tell me if the LFE channel is now present, or still missing.
I looked at the current update release notes for Vegas Pro 9.0 and didn’t see any mention of a LFE fix. However, when I looked at the latest update release notes for Vegas Movie Studio Platinum 9.0, I read this line “Fixed a bug that prevented the LFE channel from being read from some 5.1-channel AVCHD files.” Could it be true that they fixed the bug in Movie Studio first before fixing the Pro version? That doesn’t make sense. But then again, maybe more AVCHD users are using VMSP9 than VP9 since AVCHD is still mostly at the consumer level.
At any rate, I can’t wait for it to be fixed. I have a lot of video on hold waiting for this fix to happen.

Yes, this issue has in fact been fixed in version 9 (pro).
