In an earlier post I asked about Vegas crashing every time I rendered. I have discovered that it was the JPG files I had on my timeline that caused the problem.
I received a “not enough memory” message upon rendering for a while yet I have 8 gigs. I’m using Windows 7 32 bit.
The still photos were taken with a new Sony video camera that also includes GPS information and who knows what else in the picture.
I have reduced the pictures in size but that does not make a difference.
    Thanks as always.

I suspect the GPS info might be encoded into the picture but it is only a guess. I would select a few pictures and save them to another format other than JPG. I have naively dropped 3 gig pictures on the time line in the past and it has caused problems. How many pics are you using? Did you try just a couple and see if that renders without a hitch?

BTW did you fix your Veg file problem?

You could write a book on “Out of Memory” and “Low on Memory” errors.

I wish that Microsoft would say more in the error messages, but “memory” in this case refers to system resources – not just the amount of RAM you have. “System Resources” includes the RAM, Virtual Memory and other resources needed by the application.

Most often, you don’t have enough contiguous RAM to create a new Virtual Memory Page. This can be fixed by making your virtual memory static by setting the min-max virtual memory sizes to the same value. If you start getting “Low Memory” errors, increase the size of the virtual memory.

Frusrated, I installed Windows 7 64 bit and after reinstalling everything the problem of out of memory and crashes seem to have been solved at least for now.

I guess some other people can use .jpg’s just fine, but I have had issues with them crashing my system, for some unknown reason. I can, however, transcode them to .png’s using Irfanview.exe (free download, intuitive, works great), and Vegas does not seem to crash.

That is probably not ‘expert’ advice, but that is what seems to work for me. I hope it helps.

What size files are you trying to import? I had a similiar problem with JPGs that I converted from RAW files using lightroom.

The files were still 8 meg each (or so).

When I reduced the .JPGs down to less than 2 MEG each the problem seems to have gone away.
