Best Project and render settings to create DVD?
Footage shot 720/60p, transcoded using neoscene with “high” settings enable smart rendering set.
When I watch the .avi files from Cineform – or from my footage – looks good not fuzzy etc.
Sony Vegas 9c project settings – as I’ve read somewhere else that you should always set your project to the output – which is DVD in this case.
720×480 Progressive Scan 29.970 (NTSC) 32Bit Floating point (video levels) 1.2121 (NTSC DV Widescreen)
Reso Best.
Here in preview gets kind of fuzzy – originally attributed it to the fact that it won’t always run in “full” mode

If your intent is to render to DVD, why are you shooting 60p? The highest DVD or HD frame rate is 30fps (29.970). You should only be shooting 60p for the purpose of using the footage for slow motion. Otherwise, the closer you can shoot to your output format the better. Just because you can shoot 60p doesn’t man that you should. Use 30p instead.

This is an invalid format for DVD. DVD allows 60i, 50i, and 24p. I’ll bet that DVD Architect is re-encoding your video because for NTSC it expects interlaced 60i or 24p.

I’m guessing that the problem is that you are rendering twice because you are using an invalid format for DVD delivery, and even then, Vegas is trying to fit your 60p footage into 29.970 which is causing it to blend frames.
My advice:
Shoot: 720/30p
Project: HDV 720-30p (1280×720, 29.970 fps)
Render video to: MPEG2 DVD Architect NTSC Widescreen video stream (unaltered)
Render audio to: Dolby Digital AC3 Stereo DVD~jr

Thanks, my intent was to do some slow motion, this was a sporting event so knew that there would be different sections I’d want to slow down.
So following your advice – I should change the project to match the Neoscene files – I know how to do that – then render out using the default MPEG2 DVD Architect NTSC Widescreen video stream with no alterations at either 60i or 24p. Should I use CBR or two pass? Will the ultimate-s-pro-4.1 calculate this for me properly?

Yes, you can use CBR or two-pass it’s up to you. Two-pass will give you the best quality for the average bitrate you are using. You can use the Bitrate Calculator in Ultimate S Pro 4.1 to determine how high a bitrate can be used for the length of your project.

Thanks, I was looking at that last night, I noticed that the calculator only gives you the max bit rate… What is a good ratio for the average and minimum then?
I also noticed that Ultimate S Pro will render the video for you, does it use CBR or two pass?

Actually, the calculator is giving you the average. So if the calculator tells you to use 5800, then leave the max at 9,000,000 and change the average from 6,000,000 to 5,800,000.

If you are referring to the rendering on the DVD tab, it uses the standard DVD Architect templates that ship with Vegas. They are all VBR with an average of 6Mbps.

Thanks again for your help, I see now that it is showing average bit rate… However it is showing (9800) in red see https://img215.imageshack.us/i/bitratet.jpg/ not sure how to interpert this?

9800 in red means that your project is unconstrained. Since 9800 is the max bitrate allowed by the DVD spec. However, it is not advisable to burn at this high rate because some older DVD players might not be able to sustain this rate. You can just burn CBR 9,000,000 if you’d like. Your project is only 4 minutes and 32 seconds which isn’t anywhere near the capacity of the DVD.
