I feel like I’m taking advantage of all the great experience and minds here, but I’ve had another issue pop up with DVD authoring using DVD Architect with Sony Vegas Pro 8.

I can take a product and burn it to a DVD+R DVD and the playback on computer drive and DVD player is fine. However, if I burn the same clip to a DVD+R Double Layer disc,it will not play on the DVD player, but will play on the computer. Am I missing a step or issue here? I was hoping to use the double layer so that I could get the film and extra features on in the best quality possible. Besides, aren’t most of the “Major Studio” stuff being released on DL? If so they have been playing on my DVD player fine.

Thank you, AGAIN, for any guidance.

I’ve never used DL discs but I understand that people stay away from using them because they have a lot of incompatibility problems with players. I have also read that DVD-R has more compatibility that DVD+R so being a DVD+DL is a double strike against you.

They use an entirely different process. Those discs are not burned, they are pressed and this is why the have better compatibility. You have to have pretty high volumes to afford pressing discs.

Maybe I’m just lucky, but I’ve used Verbatim DVD+R DL discs and they’ve played just fine. Hope my luck holds out!

    Hi Pete,

I may just try that before I give up the idea. I’m also getting some local feedback that some folks have had more luck with the DVD-R DL versus the DVD+R DL.

If I do have success with one, I will post it.

    Thanls!
