Saving Synced Audio
I am shooting with a Panasonic Lumix GH1 and a H4N audio recorder. This is forcing me to sync all my audio. The actual syncing is no problem because I slate 90% of my audio, but…
How do I save the synced audio & video so it is no longer on the timeline? I am deleting the on-cam audio, putting in the new clean audio and wanting to save the new audio/video-sync possibly to another folder. I remember I was able to do this in Avid years ago.
Does anyone have any suggestions, other than rendering out each clip with new audio (complete waste of time for a simple task)?

2 options.
1. Save the veg file. Once you move the audio and video files to a new folder the next time you open that project it will ask you for the file directory. Simply tell Vegas where you put them and that takes care of your issue of moving the files.
2. Render it out.
I am curious as to why you would not want to render it? This seems to be the end goal of all editing work- to get it in a final form for distribution. I’m just curious what you are doing if you don’t want to render the project.

I don’t want to render out my synced clips because it would just be an extra step for me (time waster). I may not even be using half the clips (multiple takes). I would rather edit the project with synced audio and them edit only the final edit, which may wind up being only a third of the footage I shot.
Thanks for the first idea though.

Jeremy’s first response is the way I do this as well.
For example, I did a multi-cam concert last fall.
Live audio was recorded from the PA system but a multi-track recording and subsequent show audio re-mix was also done.
When I got the replacement tracks, I synced them up to the multi-cam edit using the original track as a reference, deleted the original track and grouped the new audio track to each video clip.
Save and render.
Done. -
Sorry, still a little of a newbie to Vegas. Could you explain the step by step process if I wanted to import a clip with audio, take off old audio and save with new. Do I save the project. How will I open this up without having all the clips in timeline still?

Do it the way you described in your initial post.
That is, import the original video and audio clips and replace the old audio with the new audio from your H4N.
Save this project, giving it whatever name you want.
When you open this project again, it’ll come up exactly the way it looked when you saved it with the new audio track replacing the original audio track and whatever other changes you’ve made to it.The only way to completely get rid of the original camera audio would be to import the video clips into a new project, strip off the existing audio and re-render it which is something you’ve already said you don’t want to do as it’s a time waster.
