Motu firewire
Posted by John Teti on October 5, 2009 at 3:57 amI have successfully installed MOTU audio drivers on XP for MOTU ultralite mk3. Vegas will not play. When I select the ultralite as the midi device Vegas crashes. Can anyone help?

October 5, 2009 at 12:53 pmYour post is a little confusing. Are you trying to use the MOTU Ultralite as an audio or MIDI interface? If audio, are you selecting the ASIO drivers in the Audio Device tab of Vegas? The more you can tell us about how you have things connected and how you told Vegas to use them, the better your chance of someone figuring out what might be wrong.

Motu Ultralite for Audio and midi input
Motu Ultralite 3 connected to Firewire port of Intel Mac Pro running Bootcamp Windows XP, Vegas 9.0b
Asio error message on Vegas launch.
No Asio option in Audio Device Pane.
Ultralite Audio ins/outs if Classic Wave driver is selected.Selecting Ultralite midi ports in Midi Pane crashes Vegas.
Hope that helps clarify the issue.

October 5, 2009 at 4:17 pmThis might be a problem with Bootcamp and firewire drivers in general. Can other audio applications on your Windows partition use the MOTU? If yes, then I’d open a problem report with Sony. If no, then there is probably something about the bootcamp/firewire/asio driver combination that is causing the problem.

Hi John Teti,Thank you for contacting Sony Creative Software.
At this time Sony Creative Software develops software for Microsoft Windows operating systems. By sticking with one platform, Sony Media Software is able to focus on perfection and stability. We do not have support for SCS applications running on a MAC platform using Parallels, Boot Camp, or other dual boot platforms that allow for using Windows on a Mac system.
However, we are always open to your input and your suggestions. Please feel free to send a product suggestion request at the following link. It goes directly to the development team:

Sincerely,
Eric D.

I would not have started with Sony… I would have started with MOTU. Do they support the Ultralite MK3 on a Mac using Bootcamp? My guess would be no but I could be wrong.
I did a little pokin’ around and found a patch at Microsoft which might help. Here is the link:
Update for Windows XP (KB885222)
Brief Description
After you install Windows XP Service Pack 2, some 1394 devices (such as digital cameras that use S400 speed) may not perform as expected.
I would also go into the Device Manager and disable the firewire port as a Network Adapter. This can cause problems as well and is one of the first things I do after a new Windows installation.
Good luck,

October 6, 2009 at 12:08 amThanks John – That did it! Much Appreciated! Except for Sony Vegas, Acid and Sound Forge, I’m strictly a Mac man. Would have never figured it out on my own.
Best,
