    Hi,

    i will be working on a project for one of those Phillips 3d Screens that use the z-channel to display an 3d image without colored or polarized glasses.

    I´ve tried some animation exported from 3d Studio, which worked quite well, but on this project there´s some motion grafix involved, so i wonder if i could do it in after effects 3d space with a camera and extract the z-channel needed.

    Any thoughts on this?

    Also i´m interested what would be a good way to combine 3d elements from the 3d programm with Animations done in After Effects and combining the z-channels of the footage.
    (kind of z-Depth compositing 🙂 )

    You need “Buena Depth Cue” to achieve this.

    Some simple stuff can be approximated very well by using a copy of your comp with Fill effects that calculate a grayscale from the layer’s distance to the camera, but the whole layer will have the same color.
    If you need gradients to occur on a layer when it’s slanted, you need this:
