I’m interested in doing an effect on an audio clip, where the audio playback speed gradually begins from a standstill, and winds up to normal running speed. This should be heard while the timeline is playing at it’s normal speed. It’s the effect you hear as if a tape deck or film soundtrack is switched on from a dead stop, and the audio slowly winds up to normal speed, do you get the idea?

I understand how to use time stretching (CTRL-Drag) in Vegas and the pitch shifting feature, lots of fun. But I haven’t found any way to do a linear speed ramp change such as I’m trying to describe. Any suggestions?

You can do it with this free plug-in named TapeStop.

Got it! Very cool, but haven’t yet got a clue as to how to control it properly. I played around with it some and got it to do a few things, but without a basic instruction sheet, I don’t very well know how to use it. For instance, I saw some envelope lines in the audio, but have absolutely no idea what control keys or other way to use them. Suggestions?

Choose `Stop/Play` parameter as automation envelope and set it’s value less than 10 to stop, greater than 10 to play.

For help on automation, I suggest you press F1 and goto `Audio Track Automation` section in Vegas help and read `Apply assignable effects send automation` sub-section. That explains how to assign effect envelopes to events in details.
