  Issue with 5D footage

  Hello,

  Im making a transition into the Canon 5d workflow with vegas and I am having issues with
  playback.

  Playback of the MOV clips is very choppy making it impossible to view and edit.

  From what I have read people have provided 2 types of solutions.

  1. Render the footage in Mpeg2, to as to make it easy for vegas to play. I have tried this and my footage is still choppy and stuttered. I’ve considered this may be due to the fact I have not used the right settings.

  2. Render with Cineform. I am using vegas 8 pro, so I do have a Cineform codec but I am not sure if its the right one since I have tried rendering the footage and reimporting only to discover that playback is still very choppy. Again, this may be due to the fact I am not using the correct settings.

  If anybody has a solution to this problem, it would be greatly appreciated!

  What are the specs of your PC? CPU model and speed? memory amount? etc. If you can’t play MPEG2 HDV or CineForm files, your PC might just not be up to handling HD.

  If you have access to the Nero Suite from Ahead Software(Ver. 8 or 9, don’t know about earlier versions), then check out their Vision NLE. The 1920 x 1080 MOV clips that my DSLR records to give Vegas 9.0b fits and completely bluescreens Adobe Premiere CS4. Vision is very basic, but, load in one of your MOV clips and see if it plays well. From there you can convert it to their best 1920 x 1080 HD Mp4 settings. I use 2 pass and Super Hi Res. It encodes very quickly compared to most NLEs. You can also batch encode in Vision’s sister app., Recode, even cropping, resizing as you go. Bring the newly encoded file into Vegas for a test. Remember, the power of your computer makes a big difference. In addition, you may want to upgrade to Vegas 9.0b.
