Well, on one of Vegas 8’s versions release notes they mention that Panasonic M2TS is not supported (IE there is difference between Sony M2TS files and Pana M2TS files).
So it is better to ask someone with experience rather than download all kinds of edit SW and fully try it.

It is not a bad idea however we have some real experts (including certified trainers) in the MUG…

I believe the capability was added in Vegas 8.0c.
Certainly, I have been successfully editing Panasonic m2ts files since I upgraded.
