Let me start by stating that the footage we are needing to extract is property of our company and the purpose of it’s placement to DVD was to transfer it as one file from a Mac to a PC. I am well aware of copyright laws and have no intents on “ripping off” anything that doesn’t belong to me. Thank you :>)

My partner burned a DVD straight from Final Cut Express as a quicktime movie (no compression until iDVD compressed to MPEG2) to a DVD so that I could have a transferable medium to add the final audio and titles from my computer.

Sony Vegas seems to be compressing it after I import it to my session as DVD footage.

Anyone have any ideas or tricks on how to keep as close to 100% of the DVD quality (it has a “shininess” on the DVD and after import seems to lose it)

    thanks in advance!

Vegas doesn’t do anything on import (unlike other NLE’s that need to transcode to their own proprietary formats). The source is totally unchanged until you render and even then Vegas can smart render unchanged footage that already conforms to the render format by copying the source direct to output.

Don’t go by what you see in the preview, it’s only a reference. Even at Best/Full quality it can look different if your reference monitor isn’t properly calibrated. If you are only adding audio then render the final audio as Digital Dolby AC3 and give DVD Architect the original MPEG2 footage from iDVD with your AC3 file and it should simply add that footage unchanged with the new audio to your final DVD (100%).
