Using an external audio editor…desperately need help
Hey everyone,
Finally got my account working properly. I’m in desperate need of some help.
I’ve just finished editing a full feature length film on Sony Vegas 8.0. I’m going to be sending it away to Sundance in a month. The problem is I really want to EQ, compress, filter, etc. all of the sound. I have a guy that can do it, but he’s using a Mac system with Logic, Pro Tools, etc. What’s the best way for me to render the sound for this type of procedure? He wants me to have a seperate file for each voice. Obviosuly though, I still need the video as we’re going to add the sound effects and music on his computer, export it when it’s done and then put it back into Vegas where I’ll be working on color correction, and eventually create the master file.
I know this is a long winded question but I hope it’s not confusing because I desperately need help! I tried rendering each line last night as an Audio Interchange File Format (.aif) but it kept trying to render the whole project and would put all the sound together into 1 channel. I tried highlighting 1 line at a time, but that didn’t work either. Finally I got it to render multiple channels using multi channel mapping, but it was all of the same sound file.
What should I do??

Selecting or highlighting tracks or events has absolutely no effect on the render. If you can see / hear it in the preview window, it’s going to be in the rendered file.
If you want the rendered file to have only one specific track, then hit the Solo button (looks like an exclamation point) for that track and render your WAV or AIF. If you need to have some, but not all, tracks merged into a single file, hit the Mute button (circle with a line through it) for the tracks you want to exclude.

If you your audio editor has Vegas, He can do that without leaving Vegas. In fact each audio channel defaultly has gate, compression and EQ on each track. Vegas was audio only on Ver 1 and 2.
Can you not import a wave into logic on a mac?? vegas aslo supports DX and VST pluggins. I’ve tried them all and like Vegas better by far. Danny -
Thank you guys for your help.
I wound up soloing each audio track and rendering them as an aif. Then I rendered the video portion as an mpeg. I made sure to match time code and used a harddrive compatible to both Mac and PC. Tonight we opened everything in Pro Tools without any issues and even knocked out the first 8 minutes of the film.
Thanks again for your help. I’m sure I’ll be posting again with color issues.
