Hey all you gurus out there, I am a Vegas newbie and I need help ASAP!!!

I have created a short 2 minute video in vegas (pro 8) and just spent a very long time playing with the “video event Pan/Crop” of a clip to get it just the way I wanted it to.
My problem is that I now wish to change the clip’s length on the timeline by just clicking on the left end and shortening it to the exact start time i want.

The problem is that when I do that, the video shortens, but the Panning / cropping simply shifts to the new time as if that were the start of the video.

    For example:
Suppose my panning was such that for the first 20 seconds the video zooms in on one person’s face and then it jumps to zooming in on a second person’s face for the next 20 seconds.
Now, when I drag the left end of my video and shorten the entire video by 10 seconds by dragging the start over for 10 seconds, I would WANT IT TO only focus on the first person’s face for 10 seconds now and then jump to the second person’s face (i.e. also have the panning be affected by my time-shift).
What Vegas does, though, is that it still focuses on the region where the first person’s face would be for the full 20 seconds before moving the second person EVEN THOUGH I SHORTENED THE VIDEO BY 10 SECONDS!!!

I REALLY hope this makes sense to you gurus out there and that there is some kind of simple solution like choosing a specific option from the menu bar or something like that, but please let me know.

    MANY thanks
    Ori

Suppose you still want to have the first keyframe at the start and all the other keyframes shift back the same distance as you made the event shorter, you can simply select all keyframes (using shift + selecting the second and the last keyframe) and move them back.
But if you would like to change the absolute distance between the keyframes, keeping the same relative distance between all keyframes, you can select all keyframes and move them while pressing Alt.

    Theo,

    Thanks for your prompt reply.
I understand that your method will work and thank you very much for that, if nothing else comes about, I will have to use that as my ultimate solution.

RATHER, though, I was hoping there was some way to link the keyframes to the video so when the video was affected, the keyframes stuck with the original spots on the video.
Example: If keyframe #2 is at a position 15 seconds into the video, if I now drag the left end of the video 5 seconds over to the right (i.e. start the video 5 seconds into the original video), I wanted the keyframe to now be 10 seconds into the new (shorter) video automatically without me having to do the maths of figuring out how much to move them before doign the time-shift edit.

…Still hoping there is a solution.

    Thanks
    Ori

I would try splitting the clip(s on the keyboard) and then delete the 2nd half.
