Sony Vegas Movie Studio 9 KEEPS Crashing
Every time I try to open up a file ripped by DVD shrink, Sony Vegas Movie Studio Platinum 9 crashes–first saying theres an error and then completely closing. The files are mpg, changed from VOB. I even tried to open the file in VOB and same problem. Originally, when I first tried to open the ripped files the audio would be out of snyc, or there’d be no audio option at all–but it wouldn’t crash. Then, trying to solve that initial problem with the no audio, I downloaded a KLite Codec Pack–didn’t help. I went to the Sony site and got the upgrade, which mentioned improvement in reading MPEG files or something, and this is when all the crashing started happening. I think something mightve went wrong in the upgrade, because at one point it said it was canceling because it need administrative authorization or something like that. So anyway, now I can’t even open the ripped files. I’m this close to returning it because if i cant get these files, it defeats the whole point of the purchase. Hopefully theres a solution to this where I can access these files without Sony crashing, AND have the audio in sync rather than lagging or not being there at all when imported. I tried googling solutions but nothing helped.

Why don’t you use the DVD imoport function of Vegas Movie Studio? It saves you the trouble of working with DVD-shrink-generated files.

As a general rule, never, ever, never, download one of these “codec packs” and install it. That’s like saying, “I didn’t feel good so I tool a handful of every different pill in the medicine cabinet but I still feel bad!” These codecs could have easily overlaid Vegas codecs and can actually be the reason your upgrade didn’t install correctly.
If you have a codec problem, use a tool like GSpot to figure out which codec you need (if any) and install only that single codec from a reputable source. Codec packs are great for home theater PC’s that need to playback anything you throw at it. They are almost always disastrous for video editng PC’s.
I would uninstall Vegas. Uninstall the codec pack. Then try and re-install Vegas.
