  • Vegas 9 pixelating every 4th frame

I’m having an issue with Vegas 9 and wonder if anyone else has seen this or has a fix.

My project originated on a DVX-100B in 24p (2-3) and was edited and always played smoothly in Veg 8.

I’ve rebuilt my computer after a failure to a new system with a quad-core Intel i7 CPU and 6GB of RAM, so I moved up to the Win7 RC and Veg 9 64.

Now, when I view this project I notice there are little jumps in the playback, like what you might see when film is jiggling in the gate. Upon closer inspection, every 4th frame is pixelating and shifting a bit, which is what is causing this jumping appearance.

When I go back to Vista and Veg 8 playback is smooth.

I’d like to be able to take advantage of all my ram and render threads in Veg9 64 because this is a feature film project and every minute saved rendering is important.

This jumping shows up in preview and all renders.

I have tried adjusting every interlace setting and rendering to different settings, the problem is still there

I’m thinking it is some sort of bug, but haven’t been able to find any info around the web.

Appreciate any thoughts or suggestions on this!

Have you checked out the free whitepaper titled 24p and Panasonic AG-DVX100 and AJ-SDX900 on the Sony site?
You might be lucky enough to find an answer in it.

I will look that over – but is it specific to Vegas 9? I don’t have this issue in Vegas 8, so it must be due to the new version, right?

Ted, that particular whitepaper dates back to (as I recall) Vegas 4 as it was the first NLE to handle true 24p.
Since it works in V8 and not in V9, my only suggestion is to finish it in V8 and file a bug report with Sony.
Unfortunately I’ve been reading a lot of complaints lately about users having to back to V8 to finish projects that, for whatever reason, don’t work in V9.
Yours sounds like another one 🙁

That was my last resort. when I have some time I’ll do some samples in both versions so you can see what I mean. since it’s hitting on the 4th frame it must have to do with interlacing.

    hope 9.0a arrives soon…

Interlacing happens on every frame so I don’t see how that would affect only the 4th frame. It sounds more like a telecine problem and sounds more like a bug in Vegas Pro 9 more than anything else since it works in Vegas Pro 8. I would report it to Sony. It’s not going to get fixed unless someone reports it and works with Sony using footage that causes the problem, so that they can reproduce it and find a solution.

Did I say interlace? I meant telecine. I was thinking of the interlace patterns with the particular pulldown patterns, knowing that the 4th frame is where you switch back into the new sequence (or something like that)

I’ve just recreated all the work I’d done since switching over in Veg 8, looks like I’ll be here until 9.0a appears.
