I shot a wedding this weekend using FX1 Sony Cameras. The bride has called to say one of the guests shot some candid HD footage on a Sony HDR-XR500 HD camcorder and wants me to add some of this footage to the DVD. Can I drop the MPEG 4 AVC files from the camcorder hard drive on to the timeline along with the MPEG 2 HDV files from the FX1’s? Will this cause any problems, loss of quality or rendering issues? I’m using Vegas Pro 9.

Assuming that Vegas Pro can read the AVC files produced by the Sony HDR-XR500 the only issues you will have are white balance and low light noise. If these are outdoor shots it should look great. Indoors I’m betting the FX1 has better low light capability.
