    I have footage given to me from final cut in a mov format. it’s hd footage and i tried to convert 2 avi. I cannot view the footage on pc or edit on pc. i tried to download the newest quicktime and vlc plyer and still cannot view or edit the footage, what do i need. and how do i maintain the best hd quality from the footage?

    Open the file in the Quicktime player and go to the Movie Instector window (Ctrl+I) to see what video codec it uses. Then try and get that codec for Windows (if you can). Otherwise you need to go back and ask for the file using a PC compatible codec.

    My guess is that you’ve got some form of DVCPRO HD (in a QuickTime wrapper – probably from a Panasonic camera?).

    Apple does not include those codecs in the Windows version of QuickTime, nor can you buy them from Apple (QT Pro won’t help).

    There are solutions, none of them are fun (Cineform. Raylight… someone posted a newish one the other day – might be time to try that).
