dual monitor setup in Vegas Movie Studio
Greetings,
I am attemping to set up a dual monitor system using Vegas Movie Studio Platinum with my timeline and media on one monitor and full screen preview on my other. My graphics card (NVIDIA GeForce 7100) has three outputs…VGA, DVI, and HDMI. I have my Dell 17″ 16:9 plugged into the vga port (for the timeline, mixer, etc) and my 22″ 16:9 Acer plugged into the HDMI port. After applying the Dualview configuaration (monitors working independently of each other) I am able to undock the preview monitor and move it to the 22″ monitor and enlarged it to try to fill the entire screen. However…the picture on the 22″ does not fill the entire screen. I unchecked the ‘Show Toolbar’ and ‘Show Status Bar’ dropdowns but still see about a quarter inch of the ‘Video Preview’ blue band at the top and bottom of the screen.
Is this normal for Vegas or am I missing something?

In Vegas Movie Studio you want to select Options | Preferences | Preview Device. Then under Device: select Windows Secondary Display. This will allow you to use your entire second screen as a preview device.
To enable this, keep the preview window on your primary display. At the top of the preview, the second icon from the left looks like a monitor. If you hover your mouse over it you will see a context popup that says Preview on External Monitor (Alt+Shift+4). Press this and the secondary monitor will give you a full screen preview. The quality is controlled by the quality setting on the preview window. Press this button again to turn it off.

Hi John,
I followed your instructions and sure enough there was my preview screen on my 22″ preview monitor. However, it was the same small size as the preview screen on my primary monitor. After resizing the preview monitor on the secondary display monitor (22″) it filled the screen.

I’m glad that worked for you. You don’t have to resize the preview screen to make the secondary monitor full screen. There are other options at the bottom of the Preview Device tab to make it fill the screen automatically. (check Scale output to fill display).

hi. i have tried the process you mentioned above to setup the preview on an external monitor. but it doesn’t show the option for WINDOWS SECONDARY DISPLAY in the preview settings.
I have an hp elitebook with an Nvidia Quadro FX 880M.
I have connected a 22 inch lcd monitor connected as an external display through VGA port.kindly help
