First, I want to say how great this forum is and want to thank jr, Steve, Mike and all the others who take time to answer our questions. Also wish DSE a speedy recovery!

I’m using Pro 8 now and going to upgrade to 9 since the price came down to $185/200. I’d like to know people’s opinions on the “Sony Sound Effects Series sampler disc” that is a free sofrware option when you upgrade. I have a very small sound fx library and would like transitional type effects(like whooosh sounds or the like). Are there any of these on this sampler disc or should I just take the New Blue plug-ins? It’s hard finding good transitional fx on any of the free sights I’ve been on!

    Thanks for your opinions,
    James

    Thanks for the compliment James.
Speaking for myself, I had a lot of help when I first started using Vegas and this is my way of “paying it forward”.

I did the upgrade at work recently and got the NewBlueFX sampler while my co-worker got the SoundFX sampler.
Someone who doesn’t have the Magic Bullet Looks package like I do will no doubt find the NewBlue samples useful.

The SoundFX sampler has a total of 174 FX on it but there’s no transitional type sounds 🙁
I was lucky enough to grab all 4 sets of the Digital Juice SoundFX collections (around 50,000 FX!!) when they were originally released and they are definitely worth it.
I deal students in the Animation program at the college I work for and they love the collection!!
Unfortunately they were discontinued but, just within the past month, DJ has been offering various collections for $100 per set.

I believe the sound sampler is the same one that came with my Vegas movie studio 8 (I have Vegas 9 now with the NewBlue FX). That disc was called 1001 sound effects or something and I can say that it is really not as good as I had hoped. I like the NewBlue effects and use them ALOT more than the sounds.

Thanks Mike for the info. I went with the NewBlue sampler. I have been temped to buy the DJ sound fx 3 but can’t spend the extra dough right now 🙁
