Is there anyway to make a clip black & white except for two or three colors? I know it can be done with one color in a black & white clip, but I can’t figure how to do it with more than one color.

    Thanks,

    Mark

Red Rose (colour1) in glass/ceramic vase placed on a Yellow Table cloth (colour2)

    Track1 Video1 – 2nd CC Select Red Rose
    Track2 Video1 – 2nd CC Select Yellow Table cloth
    Track3 Video1 – Black and White

    Easier way? I’m listening . . .

That way might work Graham, but I can’t tell without more details.

And I don’t have an easier way, but a much harder method (which seems to be how I do things in life!). See the attached image, but a basic summary is:

    1. Do your secondary-color-correct inverted mask desaturate trick for one color – Let’s say BLUE. (I assume from the OP that this is what you are doing. Whole slew of details glossed here in step one – I can elaborate if anyone cares.)
    2. Create a mask: Duplicate the track and, in the higher track, go back into the Secondary Color Corrector and de-select the Invert item and select Show mask only.
    3. Change the Compositing Mode on the new mask track to Multiply (Mask) and then hit the Make Compositing Child button on the lower of the two tracks.
    4. Re-add the clip to your project, repeat 1-3 for another color, say GREEN.
    5. Re-add the clip to the lowest track and desaturate it completely.

    So we’ve got:
Track 1: Mask and Parent to…
–Track 2: Secondary Color Corrector BLUE
Track 3: Mask and Parent to…
–Track 4: Secondary Color Corrector GREEN
Track 5: Black & White clip

I tried Graham Bernard’s way to do it & couldn’t get it to work. After thinking about it I created 2 tracks, copied the media on both tracks, applied 2nd color corrector and selected the color’s I wanted to keep, inverted the mask and turned down the saturation on both clips so independently the media was black and white except for the selected color. With both clips on two clips one above the other I turned down the opacity on the top clip to 50% and that did it except for the color was not very vivid. I added another 2nd color corrector and turned up the saturation and that worked.

    Thanks for everyone’s help!!!

Here is my results using the method I described – not too shabby I think?

On left is the BEFORE and on right is AFTER.

Not too shabby at all, I love it!

I’m unclear how you pulled it off: How are you masking in Track 1 (i.e., How is the yellow in Track 2 showing through to Track 1)? And how is Track 3 showing through both tracks (if it is)?

I love the results too, but I can’t get it to work. I must be missing something.

    Hey Guys!

Thanks for your comments. And responding to your feedback I HAVE created a tute for this. All I need to do now is to get it rendered correctly for the support pages here.

    Stand by . . . . well not tonight . ..

    Grazie
