I have twenty odd projects that need the same set of 15 chapter markers (although they will not all be in the same places timewise).

Is there a way to copy markers from one project to another, so that I don’t have to go in and create the same 15 for each project?

I don’t know of any way to copy and paste markers between projects. I thought maybe there was a way to copy and paste via Edit Details but I can’t seem to get to to work. It will copy but not paste. 🙁

You can do it with a script tool like VASST Ultimate S Pro. It allows you to save markers to a file and then restore them from a file which would allow you to restore them in all the other projects easily.

Michael & John, there is a way to do this.
In Edit Details in the first project, select Markers in the Show column.
Click the blank space under the word Show (above the #1 and to the left left of Position) to highlight everything.
    Do a Ctrl+C to copy.
Start a new instance of Vegas, open Edit Details, click that same box and paste by doing Ctrl+V.
I just tried this on an empty project and, to my surprise, it worked 🙂

    Hi Mike

Thanks for a solution that wouldn’t have occurred to me in a very long time.

Thanks Mike. It was the corner cell that threw me. I just followed your instructions and it worked perfectly.

Thanks for this great tip Mike!

It came in handy today. I was combining 2 projects and was able to move the markers thanks to this. (one project was brought in starting at the end of the first project)

One small inconvenience I had is that I had to slide the markers of the “imported” project since the were brought into the timeline relative to the begin of the new project, not relative to the beginning of the project being imported.

Could I have done this another way?

Gilles, I just tried the following and it worked for me so it should work for you as well.
Find out how long project #1 is and, using Auto Ripple (make sure “All Tracks, Markers and Regions” is selected), slide project #2 over so that it starts at the point that project #1 ends at.
Copy the markers from project #2 using the technique mentioned earlier.
When you switch back to Project #2, click in the first blank space below the last marker, right-click and select Paste.
For example, let’s say project #1 had 25 markers.
Click in the blank space directly below “25”, right-click and Paste.
The markers from project #2 will be properly lined up.
    HTH.

    Thanks Mike!

I didn’t think of turning on auto-ripple, not thinking it would have an effect.

This is good to know, I’ll definitely use this trick again and save lots of time!

    thanks again, MIke,
    Gilles

thats great but what about in same project?

I have 20 hour timelines in which i regularly cut and paste regions/clips but am always then stuck dragging the markers. and, you cant drag a group of markers past the viewable area of the UI making it almost impossible on long timelines

I tried and I can copy in Edit Details but paste did not work even after the last marker in the project
