Some Clips Not Playing On Preview
I’m very new to Sony Vegas, and film making as a whole, so bear with me =]
I recently recorded lots of clips on my camera, intending to merge them together into a music video type thing.
My camera saves them in AVI format. When I moved the clips into the timeline, there is no audio, but I didn’t need audio, so I didn’t bother.
Now, although they played in the preview fine when I first put them in, when I play the video around half of the clips no longer show up in the preview.
Can anyone help please?

What make and model camera? It sounds like your camera records to a video format that Vegas doesn’t handle properly. Search for a free utility called GSpot and download it and open your video with it. It will tell you have codecs the video uses. If it’s DivX or XviD you will need to convert it to something Vegas can edit. Let us know what GSpot says.

Just looked on Gspot and it says I’m missing the H264 codec. The camera I used was a SVP T-200 HD.

In general, none of these cheap H264 cameras produce footage that can be edited in any NLE. They write a non-standard format of H264 that just isn’t compatible.
If the maker of the camera gave you video editing software, you can editing with that. Your other option is to use a video converter program to convert the footage into something Vegas can edit. Perhaps a program like Super(c) using the free Huffyuv or Lagarith codec.
The next time you purchase a video camera, make sure it uses AVCHD or HDV or some other “standard” video format that NLE’s like Vegas support if you plan to edit the footage. Otherwise these cameras are great for just shoot-n-watch.

Just downloaded a codec pack. Gspot now says I have the needed codec but the preview is still black.

Pah, I should’ve looked into it more before I bought this damn thing.
Whats weird though is I have made videos using clips from this camera using Sony Vegas before, it’s only recently started having a problem
