Erorr occuring during preview-render in Vegas 6
Hi.
I know this is probably a common problem, but since i am using sony vegas 6 still. i thought it may be slightly different, or rare.
whenever i preview-render, i get an error/crash message: “vegas60 has encountered a problem and needs to close”
i looked at the error report, and it had an attatched file it said it would send with the error report.
the file was – C:/DOCUME~1CHRIST~1LOCALS~1/TEMP/S8A5_appcompat.txtif i pinpointed that file and got rid of it would that do the trick?
sometimes i preview rendered 10 min worth of a certain part of the project, and it would be fine, then again in the same area, and it randomly errored again. so sometimes it works and sometimes not. its random, but its occurring constantly.
any help i would really really appreciate..

oh yeah, heres some specs and more info:
VEGAS 6
WINDOWS XP
DELL DIMENSION DE051 INTEL(R) CELERON(R)
CPU 2.53GHz
512MB of RAM
AVAST ANTI-VIRUS used
DON’T USE ANY OTHER PROGRAMS WITH VEGASthe clips i’m using is mostly HD clips at 1080ix1920. my last project i was able to render the same type of clips and it was a 10 minute project. this is a 8+ project and errors occur at random spots.

yeah, it sucks.
i’m wondering, is it possilbe to use a .veg file project from one version of vegas to another? can i take this vegas file and open it on say vegas 8?

Vegas is forward compatible (but not backwards!!) so yes, you can do this.
Be sure to save it immediatley under a new name (eg. myvideo-V8.veg) so that the original file can still be opened in Vegas 6 if the need arises. -
ok i installed vegas 8, and tried to open it there, but to no avail. it said, “an error occurred when attempting to open a file from a previous version”.
so i can’t open the file there. i’m guessing something is just wrong with that file. when opening it it asks me about files/clips it can’t find, and if i want to leave it offline or whatever. on vegas 6, it doesn’t ask me about a certain clip, but on vegas 8, it says theres an error with that certain clip, which doesn’t make sense cuz vegas 6 doesn’t ask me that upon opening my project file.
i just don’t know what to do. 2 months of work seems less and less likely to see the light of day. i’ll cry in the corner for a few weeks if i can’t get this finished and rendered.

does virtual memory play a part in errors like this?

Vegas 6 said “there’s a problem but I don’t know where”.
Vegas 8 says “there’s a problem with this particular file”.
Why don’t you believe it?What kind of file is the clip?
If it’s a video clip, recapture it.
If it had some FX on it, delete them all and try adding the FX back in one at a time until you find out which one is causing the problem nd then find a workaround for it. -
oh,no no.. but its not just that clip, the error still occurs at random spots, im just saying that vegas 6 didn’t have any issues with clips (when opening the project) but vegas 8 did.
the main issue is i can’t render/preview anywhere, an error occurs, and crashes. but sometimes it did work on the same spots, which confuses me.

I am having the exact same issue (I’m in Vegas 7) and it crashes in some parts of the render, but sometimes it doesn’t. It’s very annoying as the whole video does not ever render entirely, only some portions do, and they are at random.

do you have low memory/ram?
my issue is this i think, i can’t even do much right now. but a week ago i could. i think i just had really bad timing. i think my 7 year old computer with only 512megs has finally given in. vid editing software takes its toll on a low meg old pc.
i don’t know what your specs are, or how old your pc is though. but i’m pretty sure this has to be the issue for me.
