I had to import an mpeg2 from a FCP to stick on a dvd with other Vegas stuff I had edited, and I got an ac3 and m2v file. When I dragged them into DVDA 4.5 everything played together nicely, preview worked fine. When I went to build the dvd it didn’t need to rerender anything, but on step 2 when it prepared the files for burning, it says and error occurred, invalid data was encountered when processing and MPEG file.

I tried dropping the m2v into Vegas but it wouldn’t open. It’s not a big deal, the editor sits one room away so I can just have him render a DV file and I can render an mpee2 in Vegas, but my question is: why would the entire mpeg play fine in dvd architect but refuse to burn? Is anyone else able to import mpeg2’s from final cut pro? If so, what settings were they exported at?

I know that when I’ve had to render mpeg2’s to import into DVD Studio Pro, I simply don’t use the dvd architect mpeg2 template and it works fine. But the one time i did accidentally use the dvda template, DVD Studio Pro said right away that it wouldn’t work, unstead of letting me build a menu around it, preview fine, THEN decide it didn’t like the file.

As a follow-up question, since the m2v plays fine in every other program and seems to be a legitimate mpeg2 file, are there any standalone programs that you would recommend if I ever did need to recompress an m2v into an mpeg2 file that DVDA could import?
