    Hi all,

I’m planning on using Vegas to output 720p HD (25fps) video and 4 audio tracks as a system for live performance later in the year.

The video output is planned to be projected onto to the largest screen I can manage in the venue (the venue has not be decided on yet). From a few tests I have done my Quad core 2.8Ghz machine doesn’t have a problem doing this. One of the questions I had is what format of connection / data stream do HD projectors accept ? I know of some newer models that take in Firewire which would make my life easy but from what I have read many of them require component video. At this stage I have nothing but a Nvidia card that the machine uses on a day to day basis. I presume there is some sort of video card I could place in the machine to output for a video projector that would work with Vegas’ secondary monitor setup ? Is there a standard that all video projectors would accept. The video projector would be hired as the size and power I’d need is way out of my purchase range.

Another less technical question though script based. The sort of music I do is soundscape based and for the purpose of playing live with 3 musicians we need some sort of queueing system. One idea I had was to use the Command functions with Vegas and some how create a script that would display text messages in a dialog box on the edit screen. Is this possible with scripting ? Any ideas or sample scripts that do something like this ?

Thanks for reading. Any ideas and leads would be greatfully appreciated.

    Cheers,

    Steve R.

Use your camera. Firewire out of Vegas PC into the camera, then s-Video or component video (whatever the camera has) to the projector.

    Thanks for the reply Steve.

Only small problem is that I have no camera. I could probably buy one of those Pinnacle boxes that does something similar.

No leads on the scipting problem ??

It is trivial to display dialog boxes with a script. The question is, how does the script know when to display the text? Also, do you have programming skills to write a script? The Sony Script SDK has lots of examples to get you started.

    Thanks for the reply John,

As for timing. I initially thought that using the Insert / Command menu item and then choosing TEXT from the Command pulldown menu. This is used for Windows Media format files according to the Vegas documentation. And on this item you can enter the time. It automatically sets the time to the current cursor location when you open the dialog.

So the plan would be to bring up a dialog box or preferably have a dialog box already positioned that changes it’s content based on these Commands. The text displayed would be that entered into the Parameter input box.

Any leads on scripts for this would be handy !

If you want this to happen while the timeline is playing then that’s not possible. You can run a script OR play the timeline, but not both. You could write a script that jumps to the next marker and shows the text from it. This is possible but I’m not sure if that’s what you want.

    Thanks again John,

That’s a pity. I’ll probably look for a progam that can read in time code (from Vegas) and then display text accordingly. I’d imagine there’s possibly some sort of karaoke software that may do this.

    Cheers !
