    Hello all,

Got an odd Sony Vegas problem I’m trying to get to the bottom of. I often find that when I’m trying to play back video in a project the timeline cursor freezes up on me.

That is, when I hit the ‘play’ button, the cursor springs forward some distance, then halts. The program freezes up too in the sense that it won’t play any video at all, but other commands are available.

If hit the ‘stop’ button, the cursor appears to snap back to its original position on the time line.

Other times, if I hit ‘play’ and wait, the cursor will go forward, halt, and then after 15 or 20 seconds will start traveling normally and the video will play.

It’s like my computer is processing the instructions, but something is causing a delay in fully executing them.

The problem is intermittent – it seems to happen at random times and other times the problem is totally absent. But it is happening frequently and it’s driving me nuts.

I also get the same problem when using Audacity audio editing software.

Current computer is a Hewlett-Packard a6402f running Windows Vista SP1, 3GB onboard RAM, Nvidia GeForce 8800GT video card. I also use a Line6 TonePort UX2 outboard USB audio interface.

Onboard sound is RealTek HD audio; I’ve tried disabling the RealTek driver in hopes that maybe a conflict between the TonePort and the RealTek audio might have been at fault.

Alas, disabling the RealTek driver doesn’t fix the problem.

    Ideas, anyone?

    Anti virus running?
    USB drive running?
Outlook or other process running in the background?
    Display drivers?
Might try reducing display acceleration too.
Also, try using Windows Classic vs Microsoft sound drivers in your Audio prefs.
