Scrub with Shuttle Xpress
I just hooked up a Shuttle Xpress to Vegas Pro 8. I can scan through the video frame by frame with the jog wheel. Can I set up the jog wheel to scrub audio frame by frame, or at least a really slow speed? Thanks, Bill.

No, not frame-by-frame. The inner jog wheel scrubs frames silently. This is a Vegas limitation of frame scrubbing.

Thanks John, that’s a serious limitation in my opinion. Every other edit system I’ve used (AVID, Premeire, Sony DNE 700) have audio frame scrubbing. I’m bummed. Bill.

Click/hold the Rate slider in the lower left. Not as convenient as the shuttle pro, but it works.

Yea it’s not that you can’t do audio scrubbing in Vegas. It’s just that you can’t assign it to a key and so can’t automate it with the Shuttle Pro. As Douglas said, you can drag the rate slider or you can click the CTI and drag it across the timeline with the mouse to scrub back and forth. You just can’t do it with a key stroke.

Thanks guys for your help. I’ve been scrubbing by dragging the mouse, using the J,K,L keys, and by zooming in and using the audio peaks. All those methods work, but I can’t zero in on a precise audio frame as quickly as I can with a jog wheel, or with frame-by-frame cursor control with a key stroke. I’m a news photographer/editor and speed is critical. Basically, I want to be able to do with the audio what I can do with the video–move one frame at a time and “hear” the sound. I’ll have to get used to it. Thanks again for the quick response to my question. Bill.

This to me is an unbelievably big flaw in the program. Any chance of Version 9 adding support for frame by frame audio scrub?
