  Exporting .avi to Architect to DVD

  I have 60 short .avi movie clips that I’d like to send to Architect and then to DVD.

  First of all, just to double check, there’s no way to export the file directly to Architect, correct? (such as with Adobe you can export directly to Encore from PP)

  Secondly, and more importantly, which format and settings will give me the best end result on DVD?

  MPEG2 is the ultimate file type that will be on the DVD, correct? Would I be best off exporting as .avi and then Architect would convert to MPEG2? If so, what type of .avi settings would be best? (bit rate, lower vs higher, etc)

  Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

  Hi
  You’re really better off encoding for DVD Architect directly inside Vegas.

  There’s a template for DVDA NYSC or PAL stream. You’ll encode twice; once for the MPEG-2 stream and once for the AC3 audio. Just make sude that both files have the same name although the file extension will be MPG/AC3.

  Then open DVDA and just drag the MPG file into the window and the the audio file will follow. Easy!

  Unless your video is approaching 2 hours, then it might be better to let DVDA do the MPG encoding and you’d check the “fit-to-disc option in the optimizer.

  Thanks for the response. That seems to be working just fine.

  One other thing… I’ve noticed when I simply output the file with the unadjusted settings, the picture is not all that clear (lines visible during action sequences, a bit rate problem).

  The default is variable with a max of 9 mil, min of 120k, and an average of 6 mil. Only when I switched to constant bit rate of 9 mil do the lines not show, but now Vegas keeps on freezing on me at 18%. Am I not supposed to do that? Any suggestions?

  If you’re using CBR, don’t exceed 8,000,000.
  For VBR, make sure your Avg. doesn’t exceed this value either.
  A lot of DVD players can have playback problems with this setting being too high.
  Also, stick to good name brand media.
  Taiyo Yuden and Verbatim are the two brands that most folks recommend.
