  burning a dual layer DVD

  I have a project that is over 5 gigs in size, that I want to burn using DVDA5. I set up the parameters,such as the 8.5 gig option in the properties dialog and the DVD9 option in the mastering dialog. I have single sided dual layer disks, but I’m not sure how to proceed from this point. I’ve read the DVDA5 manual about this, but I’m still not sure what to do. Can I just start the burn and have the software pick a break point? Do I have to master the project first? If so, then what do I do? Any advise would be appreciated. Thanks!

  you don’t need to master first, and yes, you can allow the software to choose a breakpoint or manually set it. If there isn’t a breakpoint easily found via manual selection, no worries, DVDA will prompt you as to a range that it can be set.
  Just burn that sucka! Easier than you think.
  The only time you have to master is if this is going to a replicator and you’ll need two DDP discs, a tape master, or an HDD with layer 0/layer 1 DDP files. Your replicator will guide you through that process if necessary.
  How much over 4.7GB are you? If it’s close, heck…I’d just lower the bitrate a tad and burn to DVD5.

  Thanks for your response! This project was only 5.3 gigs with 2 chapters, so I could’ve lowered the bitrate on it. However, I’m sure I’ll have larger ones in the future. While trying to burn this project, unless I chose the “master” option, I didn’t see anything that prompted me to choose a break point choice. Did I miss a step along the way?

  DVD Architect would have prompted you for a break point if it needed you to choose one, but with only two chapters/one marker point, it didn’t have a lot of options.
  *most* of our work is dual layer, and DVDA simply rocks at it. In fact, we’re the only vendor our replicator allows to do disc-based DDP files, because most of the other authoring tools are hit/miss when it comes to DDP on DVD. Saves us a fair amount of time and cost.
