Vegas PIP ‘frame swapping’ problem
Hi,
Hopefully somebody can help me. I am using Vegas 8.
I work for a racing simulation company and have been trying to learn all the tricks with Vegas. I’m happy with quality, size and output – but there’s just one thing I can’t figure out: Why when I do PIP, is there a frame from one video in the timeline showing in the PIP window and why is there a single frame from the PIP window showing in the main movie window?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sOSLpYQ9pB0Every so often you’ll notice the cockpit view (which should only ever be in the bottom left) displays just for a frame or so in the main large video section.
Any idea why this is?
I’m aware of the audio problem and have fixed that for next time. 🙂

What codec does the video on the timeline use? Perhaps it is one that Vegas doesn’t support well and it is dropping frames and using the frame from the track below? This certainly is a strange behavior.

I recorded from my computer onto a DVD recorder (standard definition), used a free program called AutoGK to convert from DVD to XVID (I can’t remember exact pixels of the video it created, I know it was 7xx by 4xx though). Audio codec was Lame MP3.
Sorry I don’t know much about this stuff… Trying to learn!
My output from vegas was XVID again, with PCM uncompressed audio. I don’t even know if Vegas is on the Mac, but thought I would mention that I am using a PC and that’s why I’d probably prefer to stay out of the MOV, MP4 zone if possible. We need people to be able to play these vids easily.
My system (for now) is 2GB RAM, 1 HDD (cause I guess accessing and outputting to the same HDD could do something, as could lack of memory also).

Xvid is your problem. Vegas does not support DivX or Xvid as a source and this is exactly the behavior that it produces. You would be much better off using the original MPEG files from the DVD. (Much higher quality too). Just use File | Import | DVD Camcorder Disc to get the files off of the DVD.
You can output to Xvid… just don’t use it on the timeline.
