  Problems with Vegas 9 Platinum and Samsung VP-HMX20C

  Hi

  I have Vegas Movie Studio 9 Platinum Edition (version 9b)with the bundled Sound Forge Music Studio updated to 9d. I have purchased a Samsung VP-HMX20C full HD camcorder(could not afford the Sony HD camcorder sadly) and have found some issues with Vegas and the AVCHD video format of the Samsung.

  Vegas will import the video files from the Samsung and play them back without any problems provided the files are smaller than 2GB otherwise they will simply fail to load. This is not a big issue as I have used the on board editing of the Samsung camcorder to cut the files up to ensure they are less than 2GB.
  The second issue is a more serious problem. The native Vegas sound editor and bundled Sound Forge will not open the audio stream of the Samsung video file without crashing. The moment any attempt is made to edit the audio stream both Vegas and Sound Forge fail.

  I did try the Samsung and Vegas together before purchase but only with a small video file and I stupidly neglected to try and edit audio in the demo version of Vegas.

  Has anyone else had similar problems?

  BTW the Samsung camcorder is actually quite good, I was surprised by the image quality from such an inexpensive HD camcorder.

  That’s because the Samsung VP-HMX20C is not an AVCHD camera. No where on the Samsung site does it even mention AVCHD with regard to this camera. It records Samsung’s own version of MPEG4 which is not AVCHD compliant. You are on your own to find software that works with this camera.

  Unfortunately you get what you pay for. Personally I would return it or sell it on eBay if you wanted an AVCHD camera because this is going to be more trouble than it’s worth finding software. Take a look at the Sony HDR-CX12 if you want a nice AVCHD memory stick camera.
