  • Capture Issues with Vegas 9.0

Trying to capture DV footage from Panasonic PV-GS39 into Sony Vegas 9.0 (on my Dell XPS M1210 laptop, running Vista 07 Home Edition) and I have two issues:

    1) In the capture window audio is really messed up. Plays for a second, then drops out, then comes back in for another second but playing too fast, and keeps doing that. I tried to change audio settings on my camera and in Vegas but obviously don’t know what I’m doing, because there is no change.

    2) I tried capturing some footage to see if the audio issue would work itself out, but after I hit “stop” and then “done” this error message appears…

I’m a bit confused by what versions of software you have. There is no Vegas 9 so I assume you mean Movie Studio 9. Also if by “Vista 07” you mean the Windows 7 Beta then that may be you’re problem right there. I would wait until Sony releases a version that is compatible with Windows 7 which requires Windows 7 to actually be released. Otherwise there is no telling what incompatibilities Windows 7 has introduced.

It says at the top of the window “9.0” so I don’t know, maybe it’s this “movie studio” and by “Vista 07” I mean that it’s the 2007 home edition of Vista.

    OK, got it.

    Are you capturing via firewire?
Does vidcap indicate that it is dropping frames?
Have you defragmented your hard drive lately?
Does you hard drive have plenty of room? (DV is 13GB/hr)

I looked up your laptop at the Dell site and it comes configured with Windows XP. Did you add Vista yourself? If so, did you install the latest chipset drivers?

The video and audio should playback smoothly before you start to capture. Make sure the video preview is not too large but DV should not tax a dual core PC unless something else is configured wrong.

I realize this is reply very much after the date, but this is when I finally got around to facing this project again.

I am capturing via firewire, using my camera as the player.
    Nothing is indicating dropped frames.
I defraged my drive and have more than enough space for the DV.
I may be lying on the Vista but I was just 80% sure that the Dell guy said that’s what’s on it…how do I find out for sure?

I can’t even get the video to play in the preview, only play in the capture window where the audio is doing the weird delay then fast/high-pitched thing. I noticed that the auido on my camera says “12 bit stereo mix” but the audio options in Vegas are only 8bit or 16bit it seems…could this be the reason for the issue?
