I’m using Sony Vegas pro 8.0c
I’m trying to get a file in the apple h.264 format.
I’ve tried every render to option but none of them are what my website guy is looking for.
I’ve been using quicktime pro and their export to web option to get the desired result.

For the first time I tried to render a file from vegas and then take the result and open it in quicktime pro to export for web.
But everytime I try it, I end up with just an audio file.

Did anyone ever have this problem? or can suggest a solution?
    Thanks

You need to render from Vegas in a format that Quicktime Pro supports. What format have you been using? Try rendering in Quicktime Motion-JPEG.

After you select Quicktime 7(mov), select your template and press the Custom button and on Video tab change the Video Format to Motion JPEG A or Motion JPEG B. Your web guy might even take the MPEG-4 Video but it is an older MPEG4 codec and doesn’t do as good a job as Quicktime Pro H.264.

Can you use Quick Time Pro and render from that and obtain a PRO H.264 codec….???

I’m not sure what you mean by “PRO H.264”. Quicktime Pro is the only way to produce an H.264 mov file. Vegas cannot do this using it’s Quicktime support. I’m not sure about the PRO part.

    well, that worked!
    thank you
is there a difference between JPEG A and JPEG B?
it does really inflate the file.
I tried it with a 3 minute segment ripped from a dvd and it blew it up to 500mB

The best way I found to get a really good H.264 MP4 encode is to open the rendered AVI files in QT Pro and export from there, where the settings can be tweaked.

If your aim is to upload to video sharing sites such as Vimeo, your results will be very good.

I’m not sure what the difference between MJPEG A and B is. Yes the files are larger but they are good quality.

[Edit] OK, I did some Googling and found a readyy good explanation for the difference between Motion JPEG A and B

thanks for the jpeg a vs. b
I don’t understand the response but since A seems to be working for me I’ll stick with that.
in response to the suggestion to render to .avi i tried that and not only did it give even a more bloated result (863 megs vs. 528 for the jpeg_A), the result was noticeably more pixelated.
    Thanks to everyone who responded,
    Leib
