Cannot render MP4 larger than 2GB (Sony Vegas 8 Pro)
Hi all,
Basically the problem is that MP4 file larger than 2GB is not playable and cannot be opened correctly with MKV Merge GUI as well (to be converted to MKV file). Though any MP4 file smaller than 2GB can be successfully played and converted.
Does anyone know what the problem is with MP4 format when file is larger than 2GB? I looked online and found two posts about the same issue but no resolution or explanation. Is it a bug of MK4 format or Vegas? I am using Vegas Pro 8.0 and I am rendering 1920×1080 AVCHD (H.264)
Also I am wondering if there are any other options to generate H.264/AAC MKV from Sony Vegas easily (without third party tools and frameserver).

This may seem stupid but what are your hard drives formatted to? FAT or NTFS?
I recently bought an AVCHD camera but have only worked with small clips. Nothing bigger than about 2 minutes worth though so other than the HD issue I don’t know either.

Well that was my first thought but all of my drives are NTFS. I got rid of FAT/FAT32 ages ago.
I see that I am not alone in this realm (someone already posted about this error here on the site and on other forums) but seems like nobody found any answer 🙁 -
Okay, like I said it was probably a stupid question.
Sorry I can’t help you further though. I just bought a new Sanyo Xacti 1010 AVCHD cam but haven’t shot any long clips to try it. I’ll probably be shooting longer clips in the immediate future.
I have both Vegas 8 as well as Final Cut Express, I had to use MPEG Streamclip to get the clips into both, but after that it was easy sailing for the up to 2 min clips.
Maybe one of the other experts in AVC will jump in.
