  How can I make a mask affect a layer with offset on it?

  hi there

  Basically I have used offset to make smoke look like its rising, but i want to make the top and bottom of the smoke thinner so that it looks better if that makes sense? However a mask doesnt seem to affect the offset….am I just being stupid and missing something?

  Looks like you do not understand AE’s Render Pipeline. Mask’s render prior to effects. What you should do is to apply the offset in one comp. Then precompose/nest it into another comp. Then apply a mask shape.
  Breaking up the processes this way ensure that mask is applied/calculated after offset.

  Not to sound completely arrogant, but I can’t shake the feeling there’s a lot Daniel doesn’t understand in computer graphics, not only in AE. A lot of his questions are so basic, it looks like he hasn’t even read the manuals or searched tutorials on the web. Once again, no insults intended, just an observation.
