Capturing Video From miniDV
Problem here. I usually use WinDV to import video of shows I film from my miniDV cammie. I have Vegas 7, so I figured I would try it. So I imported the video, which is on 2 tapes. I then put the clips, which are in AVI format, onto the timeline. They will preview fine, but peaks will not build. I get an error message saying something along the lines of, ‘reason cannot be determined’.
I then tried to render to MPEG-2. It started, but didn’t actually start. I.E. the rendering never got above 0% percent, and the frame # jumped from 0, to well over 100,000. I let this continue for over 20 minutes. My question is, what is going on here, and how do I fix it. I simply wanna combine the AVI clips and render to MPEG-2. Any help is greatly appreciated. What kind of camera is it? Why don’t you capture with Vegas?

It’s a Panasonic PV-GS180 miniDV.
I think I figured out the problem. I went and deleted a bunch of junk of the hard disc, tried WinDV again, and everything worked fine. That was probably it, insufficient free space.
I didn’t use Vegas ’cause I had WinDV before I had Vegas, and it works great. Also, I didn’t know Vegas could capture in AVI, only MPEG-2. I tried this before w/ a different program, only to find out my PC isn’t powerful enough to capture directly to MPEG-2. Some guys have told me the processer has to be quite strong to do this. Mine isn’t.
I’m filimg GWAR and Kingdom Of Sorrow on Thursday, and will try those tapes w/ Vegas and see how it goes.

Vegas does not capture MPEG2.

Vegas does not capture MPEG2.
If it’s HDV it does.
