DVD Architect Pro 5
I own Vegas Pro 8, but the CD only version, which came without DVD Architect Pro 5. I have been using a trial version of DVD Arch Pro whicn expires in 2 days. I have been trying to buy the application, but whenever I do, I am steered into a “buy Vegas 8” box. Is there any way to buy DVD Arch Pro 5, or 4.5, without buying the entire NLE Vegas program?

I did contact Sony, and they said the only way to get DVD Architect Pro was to buy the bundled version of Vegas Pro 8. This is maximally annoying because they make and offer a trial version of DVDA Pro 5.0, which I have been using for 29 days, and it’s clear that it works as a standalone software program. I already own Vegas Pro 8, so it makes no sense to buy it again. This kind of marketing strategy will backfire in this economy. I’m not trying to end run them, or use a bootlegged copy; I am ready and willing to buy their DVD application and they don’t want to sell it as such.
Razz, do you know of or recommend another DVD program that is actually for sale for American dollars? Or is it possible that the Sony DVD Architect Studio version will suffice? I don’t need any Blu-Ray capability.

I haven’t used the consumer version, so I don’t know what it is capable of (although there is a thirty day trial available 🙂 ). Here is a feature set for it.
As for another program for authoring DVD’s, yes there are several. However, I would recommend you get a license transfer from another DVDA user (for instance you could buy 4.0, or 4.5 if they are not using them). You cannot upgrade from it- that is the only limitation.
Another option would be Nero, but I would recommend giving the consumer version a go or sell your copy of Vegas pro8 and bite the bullet. I think the copy you have is from Tigerdirect.com or BHPhotovideo.com where they have their own offering of the product. I don’t know how they get to separate the product, but they do.
