  ac3 files not playing

  Hi, I recently got sony vegas pro 8 and when I import ac3 files into it, they don’t play. It imports it just fine. But there is no playback when I click on it. The files play just fine on vlc. what might be causing this? Thanks.

  Vegas does not like AC3 files. Not sure why Sony chose the flaky support that they did but under certain circumstances they will load and under others they won’t. Try converting it to a WAV file with any free utility that converts AC3 to WAV that can be found on the internet.

  Hmm okay so I imported a wav file – Dolby Digital Encoded (5.1 WAV file @ 44.1kHz/16-bit Stereo) and when I play it, it sounds like a swarm of locusts, or one of those olden day projectors. Is vegas not encoding the data correctly?
