Serious lag in preview and file rendering
I’m using Vegas 8 and started having a problem seemingly out of the blue. The best way I can describe it is to say that I appear to be getting serious lag in preview. It’s very much like there isn’t enough memory and the computer simply can’t keep up. When I try to render to files, they appear the exact same way on playback. It affects both audio and video.
It is affecting all previously completed projects which never had this issue before. I reinstalled Vegas and the problems remained.
I’m pretty sure that memory isn’t the issue. I seem to have plenty free (1 GB total, but rarely over 50% used during preview). I’ve done virus/spyware scans. And I’m not having issues with any other programs. Additionally, if I create a new project and use only a small audio file, I have the same problem.
If anyone can try to point me in the right direction, I’d greatly appreciate it.

Chances are it has nothing to do with Vegas. If previous projects are now effected it is probably something that has changed about your computer. What have to changed lately? Added any software? Updated software? Do you have Windows Auto Updates turned on and did Microsoft update any software? Something has changed about your computer.
You said you did a virus scan. I would start by turning off all firewall, virus scanning, and any other resident programs and see if the problem persists. There is a free utility called EndItAll2 that will kill everything running on your PC. This may help you find it. Good luck!
